Five-Year Mpower Report Highlights Deepening Emotional Crisis Among Indian Men

A comprehensive five-year data review by Mpower points to a growing mental health burden among Indian men. The organisation engaged with 2.83 lakh men across helplines, clinics and outreach programmes, with young men aged 18–25 making up the largest group.

Youth initiatives reached 2,07,350 young men, while the helpline saw 75,702 male callers—many reaching out anonymously. Nearly 17,000 calls were linked to stress, depression and relationship concerns. Forty per cent of callers reported feeling better after speaking to counsellors.

Urban and semi-urban regions dominate the engagement footprint. Pune alone accounted for 1,13,435 beneficiaries, and Mumbai added 53,657. Other major centres collectively engaged more than 40,000 young men.

The report highlights the prevalence of stress, burnout, anxiety and academic pressure, alongside emotional withdrawal and substance use as coping tools.

“Men continue to shoulder an enormous emotional burden, often silently. Our data shows that when men do reach out, the relief is immediate and meaningful… Support is available, confidential, and free of judgment.”
