For Newlyweds, Home Appliances Are Becoming Design Statements
As young couples across India embark on building their first homes this wedding season, a new trend is emerging—appliances are being chosen as much for their design appeal as for their performance. And according to Godrej’s design head, Kamal Pandit, this shift signals a deeper desire for homes that reflect individual and shared identities.
Pandit explains that today’s open kitchen layouts and interconnected living spaces have elevated appliances into the heart of home décor. Refrigerators, air conditioners and washing machines are now selected to complement furniture tones, wall textures and lighting palettes.
Nature-inspired finishes, especially in wood textures, are becoming sought-after as they infuse warmth and harmony into modern homes. On the other hand, couples with a taste for luxury are picking premium metallic shades, glass finishes, or minimalist silhouettes that feel modern and timeless.
Minimalism, a favourite among young homeowners, is reshaping appliance design—sleek AC panels, ergonomic washing machine lids, and soft-toned finishes now seamlessly blend into bedroom or living room décor.
Pandit says that beyond appearances, today’s appliances marry aesthetic elegance with advanced technology, offering AI-powered features, intelligent cooling, and energy efficiency. “Great design is felt every day,” he says, echoing the belief that appliances, when thoughtfully chosen, enrich the emotional and visual experience of a newly built home.
