Vi Introduces Theft & Loss Insurance Bundled With Prepaid Recharges

Vodafone Idea Limited (Vi) has launched an industry-first handset theft and loss insurance plan linked to prepaid recharges, aimed at addressing the growing concern of smartphone loss among Indian consumers.

The offering is available for prepaid users across both Android and iOS devices and provides coverage of up to ₹25,000 for handset theft or loss. The plans are priced at ₹61 for 30 days, ₹201 for 180 days, and ₹251 for 365 days, making it the most economical handset protection option currently available in the market.

Vi stated that traditional handset insurance often covers only damage, leaving theft and loss largely uninsured. By embedding insurance into prepaid recharges, the company aims to improve accessibility, affordability and convenience.

The company also highlighted that smartphone ownership in India stands at 85.5% of households, while the handset insurance market is growing rapidly amid rising replacement costs.
