‘Seeta Aur Geeta’ actor Mushtaq Merchant passes away at 67

Bollywood actor and comedian Mushtaq Merchant died today. He was 67 years of age and breathed his last at the Holy Family Hospital in Mumbai.  The ‘Saagar’ actor was suffering from diabetes for a long time.

Mushtaq had showed up in Bollywood films like ‘Haath Ki Safai’, ‘Jawani Diwani’, ‘Seeta Aur Geeta’ and ‘Saagar’ to name a few. He was additionally a part of Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra film ‘Sholay’, however his role from this famous film was chopped off from the final edit because of the length of the film. According to IMDB, Mushtaq Merchant portrayed two roles in ‘Sholay’, that of the train driver and a second one wherein Jai and Veeru steal his bike just before the iconic song ‘Yeh Dosti Hum Nahi Todenge’.

Mushtaq Merchant quit films around 16 years prior. He had busied himself with religious activities.
