Mahabharat’s ‘Bheem’ Praveen Kumar Sobti passes away at 74

Praveen Kumar Sobti, (74), who portrayed the role of Bheem in BR Chopra’s Mahabharat, died last night. He had not been keeping well for a long time.

Praveen Kumar was well known for his tall build. He was an actor and a sportsman who hailed from Punjab. Prior to beginning his career in acting, he was a hammer and discus throw athlete.

Praveen Kumar was the recipient of several awards in sports. He was also an Arjuna awardee. Because of his standing in sports, he even got the job of Deputy Commandant in the Border Security Force (BSF).

His first role in a film helmed by Ravikant Nagaich didn’t have any dialogue. In any case, he did several movies after that including Amitabh Bachchan’s Shahenshah where he was seen as Mukhtaar Singh.

Some of the movies he did include Karishma Kudrat Kaa, Yudh, Zabardast, Singhasan, Khudgarz, Loha, Mohabbat Ke Dushman, Ilaaka among others.
