Axis Bank Introduces Customer-Controlled ‘Safety Centre’ to Combat Digital Frauds

Axis Bank has announced the launch of Safety Centre, a new digital security hub integrated into its mobile banking app ‘open’, giving customers direct control over key security settings to protect against unauthorised account activity.

The Safety Centre enables customers to activate or deactivate security features in real time, without the need for external assistance. The offering includes SMS Shield for verifying genuine bank messages, controls to disable Internet Banking, restrict fund transfers, stop UPI payments, block online shopping through Net Banking, prevent the addition of new beneficiaries, and set per-transaction limits requiring additional authentication for higher values.

According to the bank, the feature allows immediate implementation of security changes, helping customers proactively secure their accounts while reducing fraud exposure. It also improves service efficiency by lowering reliance on branches and customer support channels.

Sameer Shetty, Group Executive – Digital Business, Transformation & Strategic Programs, Axis Bank, said, “Axis Bank has always prioritized customer safety as the cornerstone of its digital-first approach. The Safety Centre represents a decisive step in tackling the surge in digital frauds by giving customers real-time control over their banking security. We are continuously strengthening our safeguards through layered protection and advanced authentication features such as SMS Shield and In-App Mobile OTP, which ensure uninterrupted access while reducing dependency on external networks. These innovations combine robust security with a seamless experience, making digital banking intuitive and reliable. By embedding future-ready capabilities, we aim to deliver a secure ecosystem that evolves with the changing threat landscape and customer expectations.”
