BVG India, UP Eco Tourism Board develop eco-friendly tourism infrastructure at Chandan Chowki
Uttar Pradesh is adding a new eco-tourism destination near Dudhwa National Park through a partnership between BVG India and the Uttar Pradesh Eco Tourism Development Board (UPETDB). The project involves development and maintenance of tourism infrastructure at Chandan Chowki in Lakhimpur Kheri district.
Central to the initiative is the ‘BVG India Resort’, being developed by BVG India and expected to be fully operational by March 2026. Spread across five acres, the resort is positioned as a nature-led retreat focused on wellness, local culture and sustainable tourism.
The eco-friendly resort has been designed to minimise environmental impact while blending into its forest surroundings. It will offer multiple accommodation options along with recreational facilities, food and beverage services, and spaces for small conferences and social gatherings, catering to a wide range of visitors including wildlife enthusiasts, families, leisure travellers and corporate groups.
Under the partnership framework, BVG India is responsible for planning, designing, developing, financing and operating the accommodation and wellness centre. This includes operation and maintenance of facilities and allied services, securing regulatory approvals and permissions, and planning marketing and promotional activities. The project aims to provide a holistic tourism experience combining wellness and wildlife.
Commenting on the development, Mr. Hanmantrao Gaikwad, Chairman, BVG India said, “BVG India Resort is an expression of our belief that tourism must respect nature and create opportunities for local communities. Through this project near Dudhwa, we have sought to create a destination that allows visitors to experience the region’s natural beauty and cultural richness, while preserving what makes it unique. This is a long-term commitment to responsible and sustainable tourism in Uttar Pradesh.”
Community participation forms a key component of the destination. A dedicated space has been created for Tharu tribal handicrafts, enabling local artisans, especially women, to benefit directly from tourism. Organic horticulture areas within the resort are also planned to provide insights into rural life and sustainable agricultural practices.
Dudhwa National Park, located along the Indo-Nepal border in Uttar Pradesh’s Terai region, is globally recognised for its biodiversity and is among the few places in India where Bengal tigers and one-horned rhinoceroses coexist. The park is also home to endangered swamp deer and numerous bird species and is part of Project Tiger.
