Case of Pune couple underscores overlooked role of male fertility in infertility cases

A Pune couple’s IVF experience at Indira IVF has drawn attention to a critical gap in reproductive health awareness—delayed or absent male fertility testing. Despite contributing to 50% of infertility cases, male factors are often ignored, largely due to stigma and hesitation.

The couple, married for five years, had undergone routine fertility investigations. While the wife completed all assessments, the husband had never been evaluated until reaching Indira IVF Pune. Testing revealed Klinefelter syndrome (47, XXY) along with hormonal imbalances.

According to Dr Amol Subhash Lunkad, male fertility remains neglected because evaluations traditionally begin with women. “Avoiding testing leads to years of undiagnosed conditions that could impact treatment outcomes,” he said.

The clinic’s multidisciplinary plan—using micro-TESE, ICSI-IVF, laser hatching and PGT-A—resulted in a successful pregnancy and the birth of a healthy baby.

Indira IVF said normalising male fertility discussions can prevent delays and help couples receive appropriate guidance early in their reproductive journey.
