Filmmaker Aanand L. Rai on failure of ‘Zero’: “It got a crash landing, but I’m proud of the film”

Director Aanand L. Rai is preparing for the OTT release of his film ‘Atrangi Re’. The film stars Akshay Kumar, Sara Ali Khan and Dhanush, and it is a unique romantic tale. ETimes caught up with the director who talked at length about completing a decade in the industry, working with some of the top names in the business, ‘Atrangi Re’, ‘Raksha Bandhan’ and much more.

At the point when inquired as to why, according to him, ‘Zero’ didn’t work, he said, “It’s simple. I knew that ‘Zero’ will take off very well. Par uski landing gadbad ho gayi. Main land nahin kara paya. It got a crash landing. But I’m proud of the film. I learned a lot from the film.”

The Aanand L. Rai directorial ‘Zero’ that delivered in December 2018, featured Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma in lead roles.

Speaking about ‘Atrangi Re’, there is an interesting story behind the title. “Salman Bhai had the title registered to his production house but he gave it to me on one condition. He told his associates to give the title rights only if I direct the film, otherwise they wouldn’t have let it go,” Aanand L. Rai had earlier uncovered to ETimes.
