Huma Qureshi: I was good at what I did but I never won anything, I always wanted to win a Filmfare Award
Year 2021 has been a good one for Huma Qureshi. Her turn in Bell Bottom with Akshay Kumar was appreciated despite of its short length. Before the year shuts, the little teaser of her forthcoming film, Double XL, with Sonakshi Sinha, has turned into the talk of the town for making a comment on the people who body-shame others. The actress, who debuted a decade prior with the fiery and tough Anurag Kashyap film, Gangs of Wasseypur, additionally made her presence felt while featuring the political drama Maharani on the web which brought the artiste her first Filmfare Award.
“I have been nominated so many times but I had never won an award before this,” she beamed, adding, “This was long overdue and it’s a night I will never forget. I have cherished it and I always will. People say sabr ka fal meetha hota hai and trust me, it’s quite meetha! I have never stood first in anything in my life. People always thought and believed that I had the potential and that I was good at what I did but I never won anything. From the time I know, I always wanted to win a Filmfare Award. So, today, it’s hard to explain that feeling of holding a trophy of my own. In the last two years when we thought the world might end, I did something right which has brought me thus far.”
She adds, “Being fearless is to have fun and be myself a little more. As an actor, you should stop second-guessing your decisions in life. When I decided to take on Maharani, I thought this could well be the last thing I get to shoot, so I may as well put my best foot forward and do the best I can. In my head, in that time of uncertainty and the pandemic, I thought this is what I might end up leaving behind as one of the last things in my repertoire. Today, my decision has been validated with an award. After working on the show, I have started operating with the same thought on every project. I do everything with my gut, and I don’t second guess my decision to act in a movie or front a show. I have become fearless with time and I have the pandemic and the uncertainty around life to thank for it. It changed everything for me.”
