Major highlights from Google I/O 2026
At the forefront of Google I/O 2026 were significant new developments, showcasing our boldest innovations. Among the announcements was the introduction of Gemini Omni, a groundbreaking model capable of creating content from any input, beginning with video. Additionally, we revealed updates to enhance everyday productivity, such as an intelligent Search box enabling searches across various media types, including text, images, files, videos, and Chrome tabs.
The debut of Gemini Omni marked a significant milestone. This new model allows users to input images, audio, video, and text to produce high-quality videos enriched with real-world knowledge. Users can also edit videos through conversational interactions. The initial release, Gemini Omni Flash, is now available worldwide to Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers via the Gemini app and Google Flow. It is also accessible at no charge on YouTube Shorts and the YouTube Create App.
The Gemini 3.5 family of models was also introduced, starting with the release of Gemini 3.5 Flash. This model excels at complex, long-term tasks, providing real-world utility and exceptional performance for coding and agent activities. Gemini 3.5 Flash is now accessible through Google Antigravity, the Gemini API in Google AI Studio and Android Studio, as well as the Gemini Enterprise platforms. It is available globally in AI Mode in Search and will soon be introduced to the Gemini app. Plans are underway to launch Gemini 3.5 Pro next month.
In Search, the era of AI agents has arrived. Users can create, customize, and manage multiple AI agents for various tasks directly within Search. Starting with information agents, these assist users by providing updates from the web, including blogs, news, and social posts, along with real-time data such as finance and sports updates. Information agents will deliver comprehensive updates tailored to user preferences and are set to roll out initially to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers this summer.
Search is also incorporating Antigravity and the capabilities of Gemini 3.5 Flash for dynamic and personalized experiences. Users can expect interactive visuals, dynamic layouts, and custom experiences created in response to their queries. These generative UI features will be freely available to all Search users this summer. Furthermore, for ongoing projects, Search will offer custom experiences, such as tools and dashboards, starting with Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.
The Gemini app is introducing Daily Brief, an agent that provides a personalized morning briefing by organizing crucial information to start the day. This agent works in the background, compiling data from Gmail, Calendar, and other connected apps to create a digest that suggests immediate next steps. Daily Brief is launching for Google AI subscribers in the U.S.
Universal Cart represents a new intelligent shopping experience, enabling users to add items across services while browsing Search or interacting with other Google apps. Once a product is added, the cart actively works to find deals and price drops. Universal Cart will be available in the U.S. through the Gemini app and Search this summer, with expansions to YouTube and Gmail to follow.
Gemini’s interface has been redesigned with Neural Expressive, a new design language featuring vibrant colors, animations, and dynamic graphics. This enriched experience is now available in the Gemini app across Android, iOS, and the web.
Gemini Spark, an AI agent within the Gemini app, helps manage digital tasks and integrates with Google tools like Gmail and Docs. As a cloud-based agent, it performs tasks in the background and requires user approval for critical actions. Gemini Spark is currently available to select testers and in Beta for Google AI Ultra subscribers in the U.S., with plans for a macOS update to incorporate Spark and voice features later this summer.
The Android XR’s next milestone is intelligent eyewear, with audio and display glasses set to launch this fall. These glasses provide hands-free assistance for tasks such as listening to music or engaging with phone apps.
Our SynthID technology, which embeds digital watermarks in AI-generated content, is now being expanded to Search and Chrome. The technology is also included in the Gemini app, demonstrating our commitment to transparency in AI content.
Gemini for Science introduces tools and experiments to enhance scientific research, leveraging Gemini’s capabilities alongside Deep Think and Deep Research. Interested users can explore these experiments via Google Labs.
