Saina Nehwal opts out of World Championship due to multiple injuries

Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal is going to miss her first World Championship in her decade-long career. The former world number one is suffering from multiple injuries, which have hugely impacted her performance over the recent years. Saina has won a silver and a bronze in the World Championships over the years and has finished eight times in the quarterfinals.
The London Olympics bronze Medalist is said to be suffering from groin and Knee Injury. Due to this injury, she will be missing the first World Championship since her debut in the 2006 edition of the tournament.
Talking about her injury, her husband and fellow shuttler Kashyap said, “She (Saina) had a tough groin injury in Uber Cup. She was fine in Denmark, but it did not heal properly and again started paining when she was playing in French Open… she also had a knee injury in France and had to pull out. She is doing her rehabilitation now,” reports PTI.
31-year-old has been affected by several injuries in the past few years. In her previous appearance at World Championship, she came off with a bronze; before that, she won a silver in the 2015 edition after facing a defeat in the final by the hands of Carolina Marlin. Saina’s ranking has taken a massive slump following several early exits from the tournaments in recent times, and the former number one now stands at 23 in the tally.
