Air India rolls out first upgraded Dreamliner under fleet overhaul plan
Air India has rolled out its first retrofitted Boeing 787-8, marking progress in its widebody fleet upgrade initiative.
The aircraft now features a three-class layout, including redesigned Business Class suites, Premium Economy seating, and upgraded Economy cabins. Interiors have been completely refreshed, alongside the introduction of a new inflight entertainment system.
The retrofit process involved a complete strip-down and rebuild of the cabin, along with significant exterior repainting into the airline’s updated livery.
Campbell Wilson said, “This is a yet another proud milestone in our transformation journey as we welcome this transformed legacy B787 aircraft as a shining beacon of the new Air India. The retrofit of our first widebody aircraft is a visible symbol of the momentum behind Air India’s transformation. With 25 other 787s undergoing this comprehensive refresh, we are rapidly modernising the backbone of our long-haul fleet and raising the bar for customers flying between India and the world.”
The airline is investing $400 million in upgrading 26 B787 aircraft, with completion expected by 2027.
