Djokovic refuses to clear the air around his participation in Australian open

The uncertainty around Djokovic’s participation in the upcoming Australian Open continues. The Serbian, who was recently knocked out of the Davies Cup after his Serbia faced a 2-1 defeat against Croatia on Friday, has refused to address the topic of his participation in the upcoming grand slam tournament.

A huge stir was caused last week by his father Srdjan’s interview with the Serbian media, in which he speculated that Djokovic would probably not play in the Australian Open. This statement, alongside Novak’s decision not to reveal his vaccination status, has kept the world guessing about his participation.

In a recent virtual news conference, Djokovic refused to answer the question of his return. The World Number one said, “I know what you want to ask but I am not going to give you an answer tonight. Australia is just around the corner so you’ll know very soon,” reports Reuters.

The Australian Grand Slam organizers at Melbourne have made it very clear that only vaccinated players will partake in the tournament. And Djokovic is the record winner of the tournament; he has won it a record nine times. Therefore his absence from the tournament will be a massive blow to the tournament’s viewership.
