India to host Denmark for Davis Cup tie next year

Great news has been announced for all Indian tennis fans who are itching to watch some live tennis in their own country. India is all set to host its first-ever Davis Cup tie in almost two years.

After travelling to Kazakhstan (2019, Pakistan tie), Croatia (2020), and Finland (2021) for their last three ties, India will be hosting Denmark for the first home tie in March next year. They played the previous home tie against Italy in February 2019 and lost 1-3 at Kolkata.

India will be taking on Denmark only for the third time in the tournament’s history. The last tie between the two countries dates back to 1984, which India won 3-2 at Aarhus. Before that, they both met in 1927 in Copenhagen, where Denmark Whitewashed India 5-0.

Talking about the home tie, Indian coach Zeeshan Ali said, “Thank God, after many ties, we have got a home match. Previous two ties were tough for us.” He further enumerated the fact that India does not have a player in the top 100 in singles for a long time. Zeeshan also believes that a lot will depend on the availability of players. “The last time we did not have our number one player with us, then Yuki was down with injury. If we have a full-strength team, if Sumit is fit by March and Yuki is also available, we have a very good chance of beating Denmark in India,” he said, reports ANI.
