JSW’s AMPSTAR electric tractor-trucks receive CMVR certification from ARAI

JSW Greentech Limited’s AMPSTAR 4×2 and 6×4 electric tractor-trucks have received certification under the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR) from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), clearing a key regulatory milestone for their deployment on Indian roads.

The certification comes alongside the company’s first commercial order for 100 AMPSTAR 4×2 55T electric tractor-trucks for heavy-duty industrial transportation at JSW Cement’s Vijaynagar facility.

The vehicles will operate on an approximately 330-km route between Nandyal, Andhra Pradesh, and Vijaynagar, Karnataka, transporting clinker and slag. The operation is expected to handle around 1.25 lakh tonnes of cargo each month.

JSW Eco-Mobility, a subsidiary of JSW Greentech, will provide batteries through a Battery-as-a-Service model and establish four battery-swapping stations along the dedicated logistics corridor. Paradeep Parivahan Limited will act as the logistics partner.

The 55-tonne tractor-truck delivers peak power of 430 kW and peak torque of 2,600 Nm. The company estimates that the deployment will save about 4.5 crore litres of diesel and prevent approximately 6,250 tonnes of CO₂ emissions over the contract period.

“The 55T electric tractor truck, first showcased at our AMPSTAR brand launch, represents one of the most demanding vehicle architectures in commercial transportation. In just over a month, we have reached a significant milestone, with the first 100 trucks being deployed for JSW Cement’s industrial freight movement, supported by JSW Eco-Mobility as Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) partner. With this, we are building an integrated electric mobility ecosystem, including a dedicated electric corridor with battery-swapping stations to enable the seamless movement of materials. This deployment brings together our full stack electric mobility solution to make electric heavy-duty transportation commercially viable. Our ambition with AMPSTAR is to be a catalyst in transforming how businesses move goods across India. These first 100 trucks mark an important step towards that vision” said Sumit Mittal, CEO, JSW Greentech Limited.

The electric trucks will be manufactured at JSW Greentech’s planned 90-acre facility at AURIC, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. The facility is being developed with an annual production capacity of 15,000 electric buses and trucks.

The company plans to expand the AMPSTAR range to include tippers and fixed-body dumpers, alongside its tractor-trucks.
