IPL 2022: A Look At 5 Players Who Were Sold for More Than Rs 8 Crore but Couldn’t Justify Their Price Tag

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season is halfway through, and several players have proven their worth for their respective franchises with a flurry of amazing performances. When the data of some of the most renowned performers from prior seasons are examined, the season appears to be different from previous editions. With little over 30 games remaining in the ongoing tournament’s league stage, here’s a look at the top-five players who were sold for more than INR 8 crore in the IPL 2022 super auction but are yet to deliver for their sides.

Ishan Kishan

After paying a total of 15.25 crores for Ishan Kishan’s services, Mumbai Indians became the most expensive player sold in the IPL 2022 auction. The youthful wicketkeeper batsman lived up to his moniker by scoring two half-centuries in MI’s first three games, but has been out of form since. In eight games, he has a strike rate of 108.15 and an average of 28.43 runs.

Shardul Thakur

Shardul Thakur was a standout player for Chennai Super Kings from 2018 to 2021, and his numbers encouraged Delhi Capitals (DC) to purchase his services in the super auction for a whopping Rs 10.75 crores. However, since joining DC, the allrounder has struggled to score large runs or make a significant influence with the ball. In seven games for DC this season, he has scored 80 runs at a 20.00 average while taking only four wickets.

Shahrukh Khan

With his powerful batting, Shahrukh Khan created a name for himself during domestic games for his state cricket team, Tamil Nadu. He was supposed to be the pillar of Punjab’s middle order, with Punjab Kings putting in the highest bid of Rs 9 crore for him. With the bat, though, he is yet to make an impact, scoring only 98 runs in seven matches for Punjab at an average of 16.22 and a strike rate of 100.00.

Tim David

MI paid INR 8.25 crores for Tim David, who is expected to repeat his success from the BBL and other T20 competitions in the IPL. However, he returned with mediocre numbers in his two opportunities to play and has been warming up the bench ever since. So far, David has only scored 13 runs in two matches.

Nitish Rana

After releasing players like Shubhman Gill and Rahul Tripathi, Kolkata Knight Riders purchased Nitish Rana for INR 8 crore and insisted on keeping him with the team. He was supposed to be a standout batsman in the KKR middle order, but he has fallen short of expectations. Despite being KKR’s third-highest run scorer, he has only 143 runs in eight games at an average of 17.88 and a strike rate of 136.19, with one half-century to his credit.
