Shane Warne believes it’s perfect time to make Cummins captian

After Tim Paine’s sexting saga came to an end with his stepping down from the role of Australian Test Captain, several speculations are looming around who could be the suitable contender for the position. With Steve Smith and David Warner being out of contention for the role, cricket pundits have backed Pat Cummins to be named as the next Captain. Shane Warne, former Australian leg spinner, is one of those believers too.

Warne, in his column in Australia’s Daily Telegraph, wrote, “for me, the time is right to make Pat Cummins captain, something I thought even before the events of Friday unfolded,” reports PTI. He further wrote that for him, Tim Paine has no place in the team. He instead called for Josh Inglis, Matthew Wade, or Alex Carrey to fill his space in the team. The legendry bowler was somewhat leaning towards Josh Inglis; he said that Inglis has “silky smooth hands behind the stumps, he’s a 360-degree player with the bat and coming off three first class hundreds…”

Coming back to Cummins, the 28-year-old has already represented Australia in 32 tests and has 164 wickets to his name. Also, he has been deputy to Paine for a long time and has been through the hardship of lifting Australians from the lowest point of the Sandpaper scandal. His elevation to the position of Captain will only be normal, and if things go well, it will help Australia in the long run.
