Robert Lewandowski must win Balon d’Or: Thomas Muller
Ballon d’Or is one of the biggest individual accolades in the footballing world. It is presented to male footballers to honor him as the best performer on the pitch over the past year. This year’s ceremony, which will honor the best player for the year 2020/21, is all set to get underway on Monday evening in France, and the whole world is being speculative about who could be the winner.
In the midst of all the speculation, Thomas Muller, the German midfielder, has announced his verdict on who should be the winner, and it does not come as a surprise that he has backed Robert Lewandowski. The veteran Polish striker is a great contender for the award after scoring 41 goals in his 29 league appearances last season. He also won the German league title of Bundesliga, DFB-Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.
Muller said about his teammate, “Lewy’ has to win the thing on Monday when you see the way he is playing at the moment,” Muller said in the post-match interview on Saturday. He added that nobody is playing as consistently as Lewandowski. Hence, there should be no argument about it.
Even when there is no doubt that Lewandowski is one of the greatest contenders for the title, he faces competition in the form of some of the biggest names in the game. Lionel Messi is the biggest one of them. He is the record winner of this title and will be eyeing his 7th title after a dominating performance for his club and country.
