Manchester United’s co-owner Avram Glazer buys a cricket team in the UAE T20 League

The famous Glazers family, the owner of famous and marquee English football club Manchester United, has been sniffing around the world, waiting for an opportunity to buy a cricketing club. After failing to do so in the Indian Premier League earlier this year, they have finally succeeded.

The Lancer Capital group, owned by Avram Glazer, has finally successfully bought a team in the UAE T20 League, reports PTI. Following this move, the vice-chairman of Emirates Cricket Board came out with a statement in which he said, “to have partner who has invested into sports properties with a long-term investment is a testament to the strength of the UAE T20 League’s business model and it’s value proposition to the its stakeholders.”

Lancer Capital is known to be investing in a variety of best-in-class assets. The owner of the company, Avram Glazer, has an eye for sports all around the globe and is a proud owner of the Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He is also the co-owner of Manchester United since 2005 with his brother.

Talking about his new acquisition, Glazer said, “I am very excited to be a part of the UAE T20 at its formation.” He believes that the franchise and the league promise to bring a transformative growth of cricket as a sport in the UAE region.
