Ashes: Pat Cummins picks up first Ashes fifer; England all-out for 147 at tea

It was a red-letter day for Pat Cummins as he picked up a fifer in his first inning as the skipper of the Australian Test team. It turned out to be a perfect day at the office for Cumming, who, albeit not winning the toss, had a great outing on the first day at Gabba, as Australia dominated the 2 sessions.

Everything started out great for Australia, with Mitchell Starc picking the first wicket of the inning on the very first ball. Later it was a double-blow by Hazelwood that through the top order of the English batters. And then skipper Cummins came into the act to finish off the job by cleaning up the middle order and tailenders alike.

Cummins picked up the prized wicket of Ben Stokes to get the proceeding underway for himself. Then in the very first over after lunch, he broke the resistance of Haseeb Hameed by dismissing him at 25 off 75.

With Cameroon Green and Mitchell Starc taking care of Ollie Pope and Jos Buttler respective, Cummins swept up the tale by dismissing Woakes, Robinson, and Mark Wood in quick successions.

This was Pat Cummins’ first Ashes fifer. He definitely led his side from the front with the ball in hand to bundle their adversaries in just two sessions for a meager score of 147. Cummins gave away just 38 runs in his 13.1 over to pick up his five wickets.
