Ravinidra Jadeja might miss South Africa tour owing to ligament tear

In a significant development, it is revealed that Ravindra Jadeja has suffered a ligament tear and is unlikely to be a part of the South African tour. He was last featured in the first test match against New Zealand and missed the second one due to the injury.

The Indian cricket team’s selection committee headed by Chetan Sharma will have their handful with the selection of the squad, as Jadeja is not the only player injured.

According to a report by Indian Express, Indian opener Shubman Gill, Pace bowler Ishant and Sharma, and left-arm spinner Axar Patel are all set to be sidelined for the coming tour of South Africa.

While Jadeja’s injury was discovered ahead of the second test against New Zealand, Ishant Sharma dislocated his finger during the first test against New Zealand and rested for the second test alongside Jadeja. Axar Patel, who has been in great form with the bat in hand and contributed with some handful runs with the bat, has been reported to have suffered a stress fracture.

Shubman Gill’s shin injury that kept him out of the England test series has resurfaced. Following which his inclusion into the squad also looks doubtful.

Since the pitches in South Africa are known to aid fast bowlers, Jadeja and Axar’s absence might not be an issue in the bowling department. Considering that India has the likes of Ashwin and Jayant Yadav in the squad. However, Jadeja has performed very skilfully with the bat over the years, hence, his absence alongside that of Gill and Ishant Sharma will be duly felt.
