Three pace bowlers CSK can target in the upcoming mega auctions
Chennai Super Kings had a season to remember in the 2021 edition of IPL. The reason for their outstanding performance throughout the tournament was their consistency in both the departments of the game. They had great batters who could put up a total, and they had great bowlers who could defend those totals.
The likes of Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar, and Hazlewood were just too much for the opposition to answer. Despite all the experience and control in their bowling, they lacked something, and that was the raw pace. And with two spinners in their bag for the IPL 2022, the team will be looking to buy a bloke who can hit 140 clicks regularly, irrespective of the venue and the pitch. This article proffers three options the CSK management can be eyeing in the upcoming mega auctions:
- Lockie Ferguson:
This Kiwi bowler has shown the perks of having a raw pace in the past few years. And he will be someone any team would like to have on their side. He has a good pace that can go up to 150kmph at times, and he has proven to be an excellent wicket-taking option for KKR in recent years.
Above everything, for fast bowlers who can shoot a bazooka out of his hand, Ferguson is very economical. In his 84 T20 matches, he has picked up 94 wickets at an economy of 7.55, which is more than reasonable. Therefore, CSK should consider him as an option.
- Mitchell Starc
Mitchell Starc’s reputation precedes his name. Known for his great pace and superbly accurate Yorkers, Stark is definitely a priced pick for a squad like CSK. Starc has superior numbers to back his claim to be one of the most prolific pace bowlers around the cricketing circuit at the moment.
In the 104 T20 matches that he has played, Starc has managed to dismiss 150 batters. That too with a sublime average of 18.62 and economy of 7.26. He also has some great experience of the southern Indian conditions because of his involvement with Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2014-15 seasons.
- Mark Wood
Mark Wood might be an unfamiliar name for this list, but it is not entirely unknown to CSK management. Mark has made his image around the globe as a hit-the-deck bowler who has excellent pace on offer and can cause batters some real trouble with it.
Wood does not have similar numbers when compared to Ferguson or Starc. He has played only 38 matches and has picked up 46 wickets at an economy of 8.14 and average just above 23. However, he can make up for those numbers with his pace. Considering his previous stint with the franchise and talent in the store, CSK might want to go after him if they can get him at a reasonable price.
