David Warner and Hayley Matthew awarded the Player of the Month prize for November
ICC has announced its player of the month, and to little surprise, David Warner of Australia and Hayley Matthews of West Indies have been awarded the title.
David Warner, who had a tremendous T20 World Cup, was nominated alongside Tim Southee of New Zealand and Abid Alif of Pakistan. The Aussie, however, won the award with flying colours for his scintillating performance in the world cup.
After a forgettable tournament in the IPL 2021, Warner scored 209 runs in the four matches he played, under the consideration period for the award. Those four matches involve his world cup winning the knock-in final against New Zealand and his 89 runs unbeaten inning against West Indies in the group stage.
Warner was also adjudged as the player of the tournament for his performance. Hence, he was always the favourite to win the Player of the month as well.
Matthews, on the other hand too had a superb outing in the One Day format of the game. She played four ODIs in the qualification period, three in a bilateral series against Pakistan and one in the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier against Ireland. Matthews scored a total of 141 runs in these matches and claimed nine wickets.
During the bilateral series, she also recorded the stunning figure of 4 for 26 against Pakistan. The voting jury commented on her performance, saying, “Her all-around performance was the reason the West Indies won against Pakistan, and she deserves the women’s player of the month award.”
