Premier League faces Covid-19 outbreak; reports 42 cases in last week
Covid-19 has taken the premier league by storm. The Premium English football league has recorded 42 news cases. This is the highest number of cases ever recorded in the league since the inception of Covid testing on May-22.
Until last week, the league only had around a dozen cases, with Tottenham Hotspur being the club with the highest cases. Since then, however, the outbreak has hit other clubs as well, including the likes of Manchester United. This also led to the postponement of their Premier League encounter against Brentford on Tuesday.
In a statement, the Premier League said, “between Monday 6 December and Sunday 12 December 3,805 players and club staff were tested for Covid-19. Of these, there were 42 new positive cases,” reports AFP.
The clubs are subsequently asked to implement emergency measures which include wearing face masks strictly and observing social distancing and limited treatment time. The league has also decided to increase the frequency of both lateral flow and PCR testing.
Premier League has assured that the safety and protection of everyone is their top priority. They will comply with the measures drawn out by the government and local authorities and collaborate with everyone to curtail the injection from growing further in the league.
