Virat Kohli provides his side of story after getting sacked from ODI captaincy

The Indian Test skipper on Wednesday attended a press conference before the team’s departure for the South African tour. He answered some tough questions in that conference and revealed some controversial details about his removal from captaincy.

Kohli’s most significant question in the video conference was about a rift between him and Rohit. To which Kohli said, “there is no problem between me and Rohit Sharma. I’m tired of saying this for over 2.5 years. Whatever I’ll do will never be to take the team downwards. There is no issue between me and Rohit.”

The next in cue was Kohli’s decision of stepping down from T20 Captaincy. The BCCI president earlier in a statement mentioned that the board asked Kohli to think about the decision of stepping down, as it will have other repercussions. However, in the conference, Kohli presented a flip side of the story. He said that the BCCI officials called it a “progressive step and in the right direction.”

Further, Kohli also discarded the information about a discussion held between him and the Board before he was replaced by Captaincy and called it “inaccurate.” By this statement, he was alluding to the earlier remark made by Ganguly. The Board President, in his statement, had mentioned about Board requesting Kohli to stay.

Kohli yet again had an entirely different version of his side of the story. In the conference, he promulgated that he “was contacted one and a half-hour before selection meeting on the 8th for Test Series, and there was no prior communication.” Over the very same call, he was informed that a selector’s panel had decided to replace him as the ODI captain.

The 33-year-old said that he had bestowed the decision to keep him as the ODI captain in the committee’s hand. Hence, he was fine with whatever decision they had taken.

In the end, the idea that should reverberate after his conference is that Kohli is available for selection for the ODI squad and will do his best on the field for his team.
