A controversial penalty see Manchester United lose against Real Sociedad

La Liga side Real Sociedad defeated Manchester United in the first game of the UEFA Europa League. The United players didn’t have a great start to the European season. A controversial penalty decision from referee saw Manchester United lost 1-0 to Real Sociedad on Thursday night at Old Trafford.

Only a single goal was scored in this game which came out from the spot. Erik ten Hag’s men were dominating the possession as well as the game in the first 45 minutes. The ‘Red Devils’ had a chance to kill the game in the first half as they created a lot of good chances but couldn’t find the net in any of that. This costs them in the second half. When Manchester United’s new defender Lisandro Martinez tried to block the shot it accidentally hit to his hand and it was a very controversial decision from the referee to give it a penalty. Erik ten Hag along with Man United fans weren’t happy with this decision from referee.

VAR checked it and the decision from the match referee stood. Real Sociedad’s Mendez scored from the spot and win it for them. It was a not a good start for Manchester United and now they will look to bounce back in remaining 5 games in the group stages.
