Ajinkya Rahane along with Ravindra Jadeja and Ishant Sharma ruled out of second test

Ajinkya Rahane’s wait to play his first test match at his home ground continues as the Indian vice-captain is ruled out of the second test against New Zealand owing to an injury. According to an official report released by BCCI on their official website, Rahane suffered a minor strain on his left hamstring on the final day of the first test. Even after a three-day break between the two matches, he could not recover in time to partake in the second game.

Rahane is not the only one to miss the match, though, as Ishant Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja will join him on the sidelines for this game. The other two players are also said to have suffered from injuries inflicted in the first test.

The veteran pace bowler, Ishant Sharma, suffered a dislocated little finger in his left hand while fielding in the first test. The injury occurred when Sharma was fielding in the fine leg region and had to dive to save a boundary. In the process of doing so, he got his finger stuck into the ground. This left him with severe pain, and the physio had to be rushed onto the field. Despite the injury, he came back to bowl a long spell, and later he was deemed unfit for the second test.

Ravindra Jadeja has suffered a right forearm injury during the first match. The nature of his injury is not disclosed as yet, nor is the cause. The only official word out is that he underwent scans, after which he was asked to rest for the game.

The toss was delayed for the match on Friday morning due to a wet outfield. Hence the replacements for the players are not announced yet.
