Ashes: Nathan Lyon enters 400-wicket club on day four of Gabba Test
Nathan Lyon has really had to wait for a long while to pick up his 400th wicket, but it has finally come. The Australian off-spinner picked up his 390th wicket on January 6, 2020, against New Zealand at SCG. Due to lockdown and the absence of cricket, he couldn’t manage to remove those ten scalps to reach the milestone. As a result, as of January 2021, he could only get to his 399th wicket when he removed Washington Sundar in the historic test at Gabba earlier this year.

The wait finally ended in the second inning of the first Test in Ashes 2021/22, when Lyon removed a dangerous-looking Dawid Malan on the score of 82 to claim his 400th wicket in Test Cricket. Before taking the wicket, he had bowled 33 wicketless overs, and after that one wicket, he went on to pick up four wickets to help his team remove the English batters for a cumulative score of 297. He had the comprehensive figure of 4 for 97 in his 34 overs at the end of the inning.
After Shane Warne (708) and Glenn McGrath (563), Lyon is the only third bowler to enter the 400-wicket club.
