Cheteshwar Pujara opens alongside Mayank in the second inning, as Gill suffers elbow injury
It was a very eventful day of cricket in India, as the second test between India and New Zealand in Mumbai saw several things happening. It all started with Ajaz Patel taking a ten-wicket haul in the first inning of the match, followed by New Zealand getting all out for just 62 runs. The list does not end at that, though, as when India returned to bat in the second inning, it was not their usual pair who opened the inning.
Instead of Shubman Gill alongside Mayank Agarwal, Cheteshwar Pujara opened the inning. This perplexed the fans and made them wonder why this extreme change was made. Later in a social media post, BCCI clarified the reason behind the significant change.
🚨 Update 🚨: Shubman Gill suffered a blow to his right elbow while fielding in the first innings. He has not recovered completely and hence not taken the field as a precautionary measure.#TeamIndia #INDvNZ @Paytm pic.twitter.com/UqSzXYTce2

The post clarified the situation by stating that “Gill suffered a blow to his right elbow while fielding in the first innings. He has not recovered completely and has not taken the field as a precautionary measure.”
This did not hamper Indian batting in any way. Instead, it somewhat bolstered their second inning with both Cheteshwar Pujara and Mayank Agarwal putting a tremendous first wicket partnership of 69 runs before the close of the play.
Cheteshwar Pujara, who was dismissed for a duck in the first inning, played some good aggressive shots to reach the score of 29 runs off 51 balls, while Mayank picked up from where he left in the first inning to score 38 off 75. Both the batters returned uneaten at the end of the play on day 2.
With 69 runs on board, India has a solid-looking lead of 332 runs against their name.
