Daryl Mitchell says Mayank Agrawal’s approach against spinners inspired him

The Indian opener Mayank Agrawal in the second test against New Zealand, played two inspiring innings. In challenging conditions in the first Inning, Agarwal scored 150, and then in the second inning, he provided his team with a great start by scoring another half-century to set the tone for the middle order to follow.

New Zealand allrounder Dary Mitchell lauded his attacking shot selection and approach to the situation. After scoring a half-century in the second inning, he revealed that Mayank Agarwal’s inning inspired him.

Talking about his inning of 6o runs off 92 balls, Mitchell said he “set the template from Mayank’s batting, the way he put the pressure on our spinners.” Further talking about the current scenario of the match, Mitchell added that he would have loved to be out there on the field to contribute. However, he was content about the fact that he was able “to get a partnership going” with Henry Nicholls. Together the duo added 73 runs for the fourth wicket.

At the start of the innings, New Zealand required 540 runs to win in almost two and a half days. However, they were not able to get a solid start. Even though Mitchell and Nicholls got a partnership going in the middle order, it was not enough.

New Zealand could only put 140 runs on the board at the end of Day two’s play, with half of their team already sent back to the pavilion. Ravichandran Ashwin was yet again the pick of bowlers for India. He picked up three wickets to help his team’s cause.
