First Test between India and South Africa at Wanderers to be played behind closed doors

According to a report of South African media, the first test between India and South Africa will be played behind closed doors. It is believed that the organizers have taken this decision keeping in mind the growing scare of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 in South Africa.

This comes after the hosting board has not opened up the tickets sale for the match that is due to start in less than 7 days. Following the guidelines issued by the South African Government, only 2000 fans were originally allowed to witness the game from the ground, reports Afrikaans Language weekly newspaper “Rapport.”

The organizers are obviously waiting for the government to provide further guidelines. Hence, they have decided to not put up the sale for the upcoming test match at Wanderers Stadium.

Taking it to Twitter, the official account of the stadium posted a tweet that read, “Please note, no announcement has been made regarding ticket sale for the upcoming Test match.” They further added that at the moment, they’re unsure whether the fans will be allowed to attend the match or not and are waiting for directions from the government.

Currently, the Omicron virus is causing havoc in the country and has affected the cricketing circuit of the county very badly. Due to this, the CSA had to postpone even the matches of their premier domestic competition.

Earlier the entire tour was in jeopardy of getting postponed. However, the South African government assured BCCI that the players will be provided with a complete bio-secured environment. As a result, the series was postponed for a week and is due to start on Sunday.
