Five West Indies squad members test positive for Covid-19

After taking the footballing world by storm, the Covid-19 virus is causing ruptures in the cricketing fixtures worldwide. Earlier this week, several football matches were either played behind closed doors or postponed indefinitely due to infections within squads. Now a similar phenomenon is witnessed in cricket as well.

On Thursday morning, five members of the West Indies team, which is touring Pakistan at the moment, tested positive. Out of these five positive results, three belong to wicketkeeper Shai Hope, left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein, and allrounder Justin Greaves. While their assistant coach Roddy Estwick and team physician Dr Akshai Mansingh are the other two people to have tested positive.

This is not the first blow West Indies has suffered on this tour. Earlier their first team players, Sheldon Cotrell, Ruston Chase, and Kyle Mayers, tested positive on the 9th of December. After which, they were ruled out of the T20I series.

The Cricket West Indies has put out a statement in which they said, “all three players will therefore miss the upcoming matches, and all five individuals will remain isolated from the rest of the squad and under the care and supervision provided by the medical officials,” reported PTI.

The CWI and PCB’s officials have decided to arrange a meet on Thursday to determine the fate of the series. Currently, Pakistan leads the 3-match T20I series 2-0.
