India beats New Zealand by 372 in second test; register biggest margin of victory by runs in Tests
India completes yet another comprehensive series win on home soil as they rub the kiwi noses to the dirt by defeating them with a margin of 372 runs. The series also marked the starting of the Dravid-Kohli era in Test cricket for India, and both parties will be more than delighted to get off with a series win.
This test match saw some great bowling on top of great batting by Indian batters. And also, some vital records were made and broken as well. Ajaz Patel was the one to set up a template for Indians to follow. He became the only third bowler in the history of the format to pick up all ten wickets in a Test inning. Later, India broke their previous record by winning the game by 372 runs. This was their biggest margin of victory by runs.
Coming to the game, albeit the 10-wicket haul by Ajaz, India still managed to put on a massive total of 325 runs in the first inning, courtesy to a great inning of 150 by Mayank Agarwal. Chasing the score, New Zealand crumbled under pressure and could only add 62 in their first inning. India decided to play on and put up another score of 270 runs in just 70 overs, taking their lead of 540 runs. With more than two days to go, New Zealand was asked to bat in tricky conditions, and they once again couldn’t put up a fight and got all-out for a cumulative total of 167 runs.
India started their journey in the second edition of the World Test Championship with a comprehensive series victory.
