IPL 2022: Rashid Khan appointed Gujarat Titans’ vice-captain for the season

Gujarat Titans on Sunday appointed Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan as their vice-captain ahead of their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 opening match against Lucknow Super Giants in Mumbai on Monday. Rashid was picked by Gujarat Titans ahead of the auction for INR 15 crore, the same amount that they paid for captain Hardik Pandya.

Gujarat Titans made an official announcement on their social media account and posted an adorable image of Hardik and Rashid having a laugh together. “In yet another #SeasonOfFirsts, Rashid Bhai becomes our vice-captain,” the caption of the post read.

Rashid has the experience of leading Afghanistan’s national cricket team in international cricket. Under his leadership, Afghanistan won 1 Test match, 1 ODI and four T20Is. He resigned as Afghanistan’s T20I T20I captain before the beginning of the previous T20 World Cup.

The Gujarat Titans squad also includes hard-hitting English opener Jason Roy, Australia’s wicketkeeper Matthew Wade, senior India pacer Mohammad Shami and New Zealand quick Lockie Ferguson.
