Joshua Kimmich regrets his decision to not get vaccinated
The German and Bayern midfielder Joshua Kimmich has been ruled out of play until next year. This comes after the player contacted Covid-19 in November and is still recovering from the symptom of the virus. He has returned to light training but has been struggling with minor issues of lung contractions.
Now, staying away from the game for such a long time is making the midfielder regret his decision not to take a vaccine earlier. Talking about the same with ZDN, Kimmich said, “broadly it was just difficult for me to deal with my fears and concerns, and that’s why I remained undecided for long. Maybe I had to go through what I have now gone through first. Of course, looking back, I would like to make the vaccination decision earlier.”
Earlier in October, Kimmich openly announced his decision to remain unvaccinated. Although his own club supported it, he was also subjected to severe criticism. Some of which he found was not objective.
Recently another wave of Omicron variant is emerging in Germany and many parts of Europe, forcing the matches to be yet again played behind closed doors. As things stand, the football federation might have to make it mandatory for players and staff to get vaccinated.
As far as this season is concerned, Bayern has qualified for the Round of 16 in the Champions League by knocking Barcelona out of it and stands six points clear on top of the Bundesliga table.
