Juventus comes under the radar of officials for false accounting
Juventus, the former Serie A winners, are going through a rough patch in terms of results on the pitch. Although off the pitch, too, they are not enjoying too well. Recently, according to a report of SBNation, the Italy-based club is being investigated for false accounting for a period between 2018 and 2021. The reports have revealed that Juventus’ headquarters and club office were searched by the Guardi di Finanza, a law enforcement agency in Italy under the Ministry of Economics. The primary emphasis of this investigation is put on the “plusvalenza” deals made by Juventus during this time.
The most eye-catching of these plusvalenza deals is the swap between Barcelona’s Arthur and Juventus’ Miralem Pjanic that took place in the summer of 2020. According to the deal, both Pjanic and Arthur were valued at €60 million and €72 million, respectively. This deal meant that both the clubs had a massive capital gain, and only €12 million was exchanged between the two clubs.
The fact that the club has made several such swap deals in the past three years is an alarming sign for the fans. The investigators have been into this case for the past six months or so and made the most explicit move on Friday. The reports claim that the current president of the club Andrea Agnelli, vice president Pavel Nedved, and former Chief football officer Fabio Paratici are three of the six primes suspects included in the case.
