Lukaku’s sick record

Lukaku’s time in Chelsea might be in jeopardy as the star has struggled to make it work in the Premier League, and this weekend Romelu Lukaku broke a less flattering record.

The striker had only seven touches of the ball against Crystal Palace , according to Opta. No player has ever had so few touches in a full game in the Premier League.

7 Touches in 90 Minutes

Expectations were high for Romelu Lukaku when he returned to Chelsea last summer, and many betting sites lowered their odds for Chelsea games. You can learn more about betting offers here and even claim a bonus for sports betting.

However, the expectations have yet to be met. The striker who cost over a billion to buy from Inter has scored just five goals in 17 league games so far. Last Saturday, moreover, the Belgian managed to break a record of the far less flattering kind.

The 28-year-old played the entire away game against Crystal Palace, which Chelsea won 1-0. But Lukaku had only seven touches in 90 minutes, one of them coming at the kick-off in the first half.

So few ball touches have a player who played a full game never had in the Premier League since Opta started the statistics in the 2003/2004 season.

Tuchel on Lukaku’s form: ‘No time to laugh at him’

Romelu Lukaku hasn’t got his goalscoring momentum going properly. Coach Thomas Tuchel is now coming out in support of the attacking star.

– We will protect him, says the German according to the Daily Mail.

Romelu Lukaku, 28, has mixed and matched since returning to Chelsea. The Belgian is this season noted for ten goals in 28 games, including five goals in 17 appearances in the Premier League.

Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel is now clear about his confidence in the striker.

– He is in the spotlight, and we will protect him. Sometimes it’s like this with strikers if they have a slight problem with confidence and are involved in the defence in a good way, Tuchel said according to the English newspaper Daily Mail and continues:

– Of course, that’s neither what we nor Romelu want, but it’s not the time to laugh at him and joke about him.

Chelsea Struggling with Strikers

Chelsea has also struggled over the years to get some strikers going, such as Fernando Torres, Andrij Shevchenko and Alvaro Morata.

There’s a history of strikers who have had some problems at Chelsea, so it’s not the easiest place for strikers. I don’t know why that is, but obviously, this is the case. We demand a lot from our strikers in the defensive game. We want to be a physical, hard-working group,” said the Chelsea coach.

Lukaku recently scored twice in the Club World Cup, but last celebrated a goal in the league at the end of December last year, when he netted against Brighton & Hove Albion at home.
