Prime Minister Narendra Modi scrapes off 3 farm laws

Ahead of elections in states like Uttar Pradesh and Punjab and on the occasion of the Guru Purab festival, Prime Minister Modi announced that three farms laws will be withdrawn. The laws which initiated the farmer’s protest have been finally canceled.

While addressing the nation, he said, “Maybe something was lacking in our tapasya (efforts), which is why we could not convince some farmers about the laws. But today is Prakash Parv, not the time to blame anyone. Today, I want to tell the country that we have decided to repeal the three farm laws,”.

He further continued “In the Parliament session starting in the end of this month, we will complete the process of repealing the three laws,”.

He went on to talk about defense laws and how it was meant to reform the lives of small and marginal farmers in the country. But some farmers were convinced, others were not, he admitted. He also added, “Whatever I did was for farmers. What I am doing is for the country.”

The protest has been going on for a year. It started in November 2020, where thousands of farmers demanded that the “black laws” should be withdrawn. The ruling government could not afford such hate from northern states ahead of the elections.
