This is simply not out: Shane Warne on Kohli’s controversial dismissal

The stir caused by the controversial dismissal of Virat Kohli by the third umpire on Friday in the second Test match against New Zealand has taken the internet by storm. Several cricketers and close observers of cricket around the globe announced their verdict on the dismissal, and most of them agreed that Kohli was given out wrong. Australian Spinning legend Shane Warne is one of them.

The event took place on the 29th over of the match. Playing the fourth ball of his inning, Virat Kohli was adjourned out LBW by the on-field umpire Anil Chaudhary. The Indian skipper immediately took the DRS as he knew that he had edged the ball. The replay, however, told a different story.

According to the third umpire Virendra Sharma, the ball hit the pad and the bat simultaneously; hence he couldn’t find anything conclusive enough to overturn the on-field call. Virat Kohli was not happy with the decision, and he made it clear to the umpire and in his action as he struck the boundary rope with his bat on his way out.

Taking it to his Twitter account, Warne wrote, “This is simply not out, we often discuss technology & its use/accuracy. The main problem is the interpretation of the technology. Here’s a perfect example of the ball clearly hitting the edge of the bat first.”

The left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel who removed Kohli for a duck, had a great outing in his homecoming test. The Mumbai-born New Zealand bowler picked up four wickets on the first day of the match.
