Warner survives a testing first session to score his 31st half century
After a fighting session with the ball moving and doing everything possible, David Warner triumphs in the second to bring up his 31st fifty for Australia. It was definitely a tough session, the ball was moving, and English bowlers were bowling the proper channels, but sometimes when it’s your day, it’s your day.
As it turns out, it was definitely Warner’s Day as the left-hander survived through it all. It was not mere play and misses that Warner had to put behind his head. It was the memory of being castled in the 17th over that Warner survived after Ben Stokes’ delivery was ruled out as no-ball.

Then in the very first over after lunch, he was dropped in the slips by Rory Burns at the score of 48. That was all the luck that Warner required as in the very next over, he pushed a ball from Mark Wood in the gap to bring up his fifty.

Apart from all the unfortunate things that happened to him, Warner was spectacular with the bat in hand. He played some great shots against the English speedsters and dominated the only full-time spinner in the English squad to score 4 fours and 2 sixes in his inning.

He found a perfect partner on the other end in the form of Marnus Labuschagne, who took some pressure off Warner’s shoulder by scoring his 11th fifty in his short Test career. Together the duo put up a 100-run partnership to steady the rocking ship of Australia on the second day.
