West Ham beats Chelsea 3-2 to hand them their second defeat of the season

One of the Premier League’s most significant upsets this season has taken place in London Stadium, where West Ham defeated the league leaders Chelsea 3-2 to hand them their second defeat of the season.

The hammers have been a dark horse of the season, which was clearly visible in how they approached this game. It was undoubtedly Chelsea who dominated the possession and created more chances, but West Ham was never too far away from them, and at the end of the game, it boiled down to one mistake, which was eventually made by Chelsea that cost them the game.

Chelsea opened up the scoring in the 26th minute of the game, with Thiago Silva netting the game’s first goal. West Ham, however, leveled the game within 12 minutes, courtesy of a penalty by Manuel Lanzini in the 40th minute. At the stroke of half-time Mouth, he again put his team in front by scoring a superb volley. The teams went into the break with Chelsea leading at 2-1.

West Ham didn’t trail for a long time, and Jarrod Bowen yet again brought the game to level term in the 56th minute of the game. Following which Chelsea made some attacking changes by throwing in Pulisic and Lukaku amid everything. But today was not their day. Their attacking trio of Mount, Lukaku, and Pulisic couldn’t procure them the winner. Instead, it was Arthur Musuaku who fired in a cross of such caliber that it deceived Mendy on his near-post and the Chelsea keeper was not able to evade it out of play. As a result, West Ham scored the third goal in the 87th minute to seal the game.

Despite this loss, Chelsea is at the top of the pile, with 33 points against their name.
